German mayor: on 13th February, remember the Syrian refugees and honor new monument

Thanks to German mayor and Free Democratic Party (FDP) politician Dirk Hilbert, the German people are in for a surprise.

Mayor Dirk Hilbert of the FDP

This February, when Germany's lib-left and mainstream politicians gather to protest the right-wing procession to mourn the 1945 bombing of Dresden, the state will unveil a new monument.

The monument will be unveiled in front of the Frauenkirche - the iconic, Baroque-styled Lutheran church that was completely destroyed in the bombing of Dresden.

The monument reportedly consists of three trolley cars welded together.

The purpose of the new monument is to honor the Syrians who died in 2015 and 2016 as a result of the civil war or their failure to safely cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

Incidentally, tomorrow marks the anniversary of the most deadly refugee disaster at sea in history, where nearly ten thousand Germans died. No monuments have been planned for the German victims at sea, and Hilbert could not be reached for comment.
